SWISHY IS DEAD INSIDE; SWISHY IS HOLLOW; and Swishy, an innocent scarecrow boy, is determined to acquire a heart.

Blessed with the ability to conjure wheat in mass amounts, he travels to Straw City, a settlement famous for its crop of “healing” straw. Swishy is lavished in kindness and care, becoming a mascot for the straw-obsessed town, treatment that he suspects will grant him a heart. But it’s not long before the city’s gentle façade slips away and reveals a dungeon-like settlement of curses, monstrosities, and arcane oppression.

Can Swishy loose himself from the straw-crazies and their charismatic tyrant? Will the boy serve as a straw-producing factory—without liberty or heart? Not if he can help it. With a little magic—and a lot of straw—the boy resolves to break free.
