This vintage Ice Cream Scoop-Clad's Disher Dipper was patented in 1876 by G. William Clewell of Reading, Pa. and was manufactured by Valentine Clad, tinsmith, of Phila. , Pa. It was America's first mechanical Ice Cream Scoop and was invented to control the size of the scoop while creating a pleasing shape to the dip of ice cream served on plates or saucers in ice cream parlors. It required two hands to operate this early dipper - one on the handle, the other in turning the key to release the ice cream. It is in excellent original condition with some usual tin tarnish and the brass blades are tight to the dipper sides and work great.
